Silo collects the following types of information:

  • Account Information: Email address and display name
  • Inventory Data: Items you add to your inventory, including names, quantities, categories, and expiry dates
  • Emergency Kit Data: Items and configurations for your emergency kits and go-bags
  • Preparedness Scores: Your calculated readiness scores across categories
  • Network and Household Data: Household groups, private network memberships, shared inventory context, check-ins, and messages where those features are enabled
  • Device Information: Device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers for sync purposes
  • Location Data: General location information (if permitted) to provide relevant emergency alerts and local preparedness recommendations

2. Camera and Barcode Scanning

Silo uses your device's camera solely for barcode scanning to help you quickly add items to your inventory. Regarding camera usage:

  • The camera is used only for scanning product barcodes
  • No images or video are captured, stored, or transmitted at any time
  • The camera feed is processed in real-time on your device to decode barcode data only
  • No photographs are taken during the scanning process
  • Camera access can be revoked at any time through your device settings without affecting other app functionality

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide and maintain the Silo service
  • Calculate and display your preparedness scores
  • Enable inventory tracking, expiry alerts, emergency kit management, guides and household readiness planning
  • Facilitate household and private network features including shared inventory context, check-ins and messaging
  • Deliver relevant emergency alerts for your area
  • Power AI-assisted area briefs, action plans and preparedness recommendations
  • Sync your data across devices (when online)
  • Improve and personalise user experience
  • Communicate with you about service updates

4. Offline Data Storage

Silo is designed as an offline-first application. Your data is stored locally on your device using SQLite and remains fully accessible without an internet connection. When connectivity is available, data may be synced to our cloud services to enable multi-device access and group features.

5. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information:

  • With Group Members: Inventory data and messages you choose to share within your private network and household groups
  • Service Providers: Third-party services that help us operate the platform (hosting, analytics, AI processing)
  • Emergency Alert Providers: We receive alert data from third-party sources but do not share your information with them
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect rights and safety
  • Business Transfers: In connection with mergers, acquisitions, or asset sales

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information, including encryption of data in transit and at rest. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to data processing
  • Export your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time

8. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You may request deletion of your Silo account and associated data at any time via the app settings or by using our account and data deletion request page.

You can also request deletion of specific personal data without deleting your account. Requests are normally processed within 30 days, although some information may be retained where required for legal, security, fraud prevention, billing, dispute resolution, or regulatory purposes.

9. Children's Privacy

Silo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email.
